While interacting with a chatbot or using a voice assistant comes naturally to digital natives, for many people over 65 these tools represent an insurmountable barrier. The problem intensifies when essential services – from booking medical appointments to handling bureaucratic procedures – are increasingly entrusted to AI-based automated systems, without providing accessible alternatives.
The scope of the problem
According to various studies conducted across Europe, the percentage of elderly people who feel comfortable using artificial intelligence tools is significantly lower compared to younger age groups. This gap isn’t just about chronological age, but intertwines with other factors:

The future challenge will be to design artificial intelligence not as a tool for the few, but as a truly inclusive technology. This requires a paradigm shift: it’s not enough to make AI more powerful, it must be made accessible to anyone, regardless of age or technological background. Only in this way can we prevent the digital revolution from becoming yet another factor of social inequality, rather than a shared opportunity for all.
